We do not manufacture the shorter forearms for the Trapper model, nor do we offer stocks or forearms for the special. Our standard stock may be adapted for use in these rifles, without the medallion adaptation order a Late 94. Please note that PGW does not manufacture stocks for special or commemorative issues of the Winchester Model 1894 due to the medallion insert cuts.

WINCHESTER 94AE REPLACEMENT BARREL SERIAL NUMBER

Serial number 2.5 million was assembled in 1961. Subsequent benchmark Model 94 rifles were presented to Presidents Harry Truman (1948) and Dwight Eisenhower (1953). The millionth 94 was presented in 1927 to President Calvin Coolidge. The Model 1894 was the first sporting gun to pass the 1,000,000 mark. Note that the carbine style buttstock was changed on the carbine model in 1937, to a shotgun-style stock.

This was the first lever action repeating rifle model on the market that was designed especially for smokeless powder cartridges. I have plenty of 375 Winchester brass but 30-30 brass can be fire formed for use in a pinch and 200 - 275 grain bullets at 1600 -1800 fps is all one needs for anything in the US with this handy carbine. With only a few minor changes in its construction, the Model 1894 / Model 94 was manufactured continuously for over 100 years. In my case the 375 barrel is better yet as the bore is really 0.375" making Jword bullets an option as well as cast. The switch to 38-55 is very rewarding and practical. I have another one I'm going to do in 356 Winchester and a third one in 35/30-30. I have well over 500 rounds through it and the 1:12 twist rate is great with my 38-55 power level cast bullet loads. The regular 30-30 guides and lifter worked fine in my gun. I re-cut the barrel shank and threads on a surplus XTR barrel to fit the standard action. I converted a standard 94 top eject 30-30 to a top eject 375 Winchester. I prefer the straight grip and narrow for-end on the Winchesters over the Marlin's checkered fat for-end and butt-stock but the Marlin Cowboy's are nice. I have a Canadian Centennial too they don't have much collector value so enjoy shooting them. For your first go try for a surplus GPC barrel in the right style and you shouldn't have too many probllems.

GPC barrels are for the most part shipped with a full chamber and the breech end is long to allow lathe fitting for a rimmmed ctg. I replace the stamped onnes with cast steel whenever possible. Beware of the stamped lifters as a lot of feed problems stem from these cheap things. 35-55 guides are like hens teeth but 375's can be made to work. The biggest problems I have found with caliber change is feeding, a 25,30,32 all work fine but a 38-55 takes a different guide and 30-30 guides will tend to hang up. The test target is typical of the accuracy from this conversion as with iron sights i am getting under 3" with just about all loads at 100 yards. The buttstock is being made now and will be old style M94 and a tang sight is going on this spring. The fore end was a solid block of walnut that i did myself as I wasn't happy with the original foreend.

Since the GPC barrel was for a old model I did not have to recut the extactor groove. Before you cry at my ruining a COLLECTORS gun the C/C in the photo was bought in 1971 for 1o bucks LESS than a standard M94 and was used as a shooter till 2008. Here is a 38-55 done with a GPC barrel I picked up on sale.
